Special Features:

  • Can run 57 km/hr.
  • These buffalo are considered the most dangerous of all big game animals.

Social Structure & Behavior:

Live in herds of 8-20. Younger males live in bachelor herds while the older males are solitary. Both diurnal and nocturnal. Mud wallowing has some social significance. . Gregarious and nonterritorial.

Reproduction:

Sexual maturity at 4 years. Gestation 340 days resulting in a single birth. Calf is weaned at 4-6 months.
