Fast Facts:

  • The Mongolian gazelle is also known as the white-tailed gazelle or the Zeren gazelle.

  • They can leap over 6.5 feet.

  • Only males have the dark gray, lyre-shaped horns that curl backwards and run parallel to the head.

Special Features:

  • Coat is light brown or buff colored with pinkish tones in the summer. It becomes longer and paler during the winter.
  • It has a distinct heart-shaped patch of white hair on the rump.
  • The eyes are small but protrude from the head.
  • They can run up to 39 mph for 7-9 miles.
  • Good swimmers
  • Normally silent, the males may make a loud bellow during mating season

Breeding/Care of Young:
Gestation is 185 days. Sexual maturity is reached at 1.5-2 years old. Usually a single birth, but twins are not unusual During mating season the male's throat will swell resembling a goiter. Mating occurs late fall and winter.
