Fast Facts:

  • Goats are raised for different purposes. Angora and Cashmere goats are raised for their hair to make fiber, the Spanish Meat Goat and the Boer from South Africa are raised for their meat, and other goats, like the Nubian, are raised as milk producers.

  • Nubian is not a heavy milk producer, but its milk has a higher butterfat content (4 to 5%) than most.

Status Nubian goats are domesticated animals, so populations are considered stable.
Diet Grain and brome hay
Size Height: Mature males - 35" at the shoulders; mature females - 30" at the shoulders

Weight: Mature male - 175 pounds; mature females - 135 pounds

Special Features

  • The Nubian has a long breeding season so is able to produce milk all year round. 
  • This variety of goat is intelligent and personable. They are gregarious in nature and enjoy the company of other goats and of their human handlers.
  • The goat's long pendulous ears give it an "aristocratic" appearance.
