Special Features

  • Only the males have horns.
  • Females are larger than males.
  • It has whitish rings around its eyes.
  • Lack false hooves.

Social Structure & Behavior

Extremely shy and secretive. Grysbok are solitary and nocturnal. When disturbed, it will scurry to the undergrowth with its head held straight down. Is known to use old burrows, especially from aardvarks, as protection from enemies.

Rams and ewes will rest some distance apart.

Reproduction:
Sexual maturity 6-19 months. Gestation is 7 months resulting in a single lamb born. Weaning at 3 months of age.
