Special Features

  • These cats have black stripes on long orange fur which act as camouflage.
  • They have retractable claws.
  • Loose belly skin allows the tiger to be kicked by prey without being hurt.
  • Hind legs longer than front legs to facilitate jumping.
  • Excellent swimmers but not good climbers.


Behavior

Solitary hunters. Territorial. Nocturnal.

Breeding & Care of Young
Mating season December through January. Females in the wild will only produce litters every 3-4 years. 2-6 cubs in a litter. Cubs stay with the tigress for 3 years. Gestation 100-108 days. Sexual maturity 4-5 years for males and 3-4 years for females.
