Description: Become an integral part of the RHWA Volunteer & Interpretation team.   

Responsibilities include : Training, scheduling, supervising Volunteers including teens; staffing Touch carts; monitoring visitor behavior and answering questions at exhibits; and being on grounds interacting with Zoo and Museum visitors.

What would I do as an intern?
The Volunteer office touches all areas of the park giving you the opportunity to experience working in many different areas of both the zoo and museum. Possible assignments include:

  • Train, schedule, & manage volunteers
  • Work with staff to refine volunteer opportunities
  • Develop and implement interpretation stations and Animal Encounters
  • Mentor youth in their career pursuits
  • Train volunteers on animal handling techniques
  • Act as a liaison between volunteers and staff
  • Assist in event management
Qualifications: Applicants should be articulate; have good public speaking and organizational skills, and interact positively with the general public, children, co-workers, and volunteers. Be comfortable with a variety of small animals. Candidates should be majoring in Biology, Environmental Education, Parks and Rec., or a related field. A flexible schedule and a valid driver’s license are required.

Duration:
June - August (start/end dates are flexible) 20 - 30 hours per week; weekend, and holiday work required. Salary: This is a non-paid position.
