Special Event Volunteering
Special Events are a great time to "try out" volunteering for the zoo. Volunteers need little to no additional training for these events and generally assist experience volunteers at game, craft, or consession stations.

Party for the Planet
Volunteers assist at craft and activity stations during this celebration of our earth.

Mother's Day
Volunteers needed to greet guests and handout flyers as well as assist Mother's in their flower pickup between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Father's Day Car Show
Volunteers needed to greet guests and handout flyers as well as man concession stands 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Summer Splash
Volunteers assist visitors with water games and other activities during our summer Kid-in-free day. Volunteers may work a morning or afternoon shift between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Grandparents Weekend
Volunteers assist with fun games and activities for grandparents and grandkids to share together. If you are available Noon - 4:00 p.m. this special event may be for you. Grandparents/grandkid pairs welcome.
Safari Edventure Day
Volunteers assist station presenters, present 20 minute programs, or supervise an area. This one day special event is designed to increase students appreciation and understanding for various fields of science and the many cultures from around the world. Morning shift
9:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Pumpkin PaZoola
Volunteers man game and concession stations for our annual celebration Pumpkin-themed Fall Festival in the Zoo. Kids get in free with paid adult. Volunteer may work a morning or afternoon shift between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
How to sign up:
Cancellations
If you or your group are not be able to volunteer as planned the contact person for the group must call as soon as possible. Special events require many volunteer to succeed and replacement volunteers will have to be found and re-assigned if you do not show up.
Volunteers will be confirmed by email or regular mail several days prior to the special event.
Guidelines for all volunteers:
1. Volunteers must be 10 years old or older. (Ages 10-12 must have an adult volunteer with them.)
2. Dress according to weather and remember it is always cooler at the Zoo. Wear closed-toe type shoes and socks.
3. Each participant should have their own water bottle which can be refilled at water fountains around the zoo. Zoo staff will also have a water cooler available to refill water bottles as needed.
NOTE: No food or drinks (except water bottles) are allowed into the Zoo. The Overlook Restaurant has a variety of food choices. Lunches brought from home may be enjoyed at our covered picnic area, which is also equipped with bathrooms, water fountain, and pop machine, located just outside the zoo off the parking lot.
4. Participants must stay on marked paths at all times unless directed by a staff member otherwise.
5. Participants are not allowed to any feed the animals.
6. Participants should NEVER to attempt to touch any of the animals except as allowed in our Kid’s County petting area. NOTE: The animals of RHWA must be treated with respect at all times. This is their home and should be treated as such. Teasing of any kind will not be tolerated; no yelling, throwing of objects, hitting exhibit windows or barriers.
7. No smoking is allowed on Zoo grounds.
Volunteer groups unable to follow the above guidelines may be asked to leave zoo grounds.
