COX COMMUNICATIONS TO FUND
SAFARI EXPO AND SAFARI ED-VENTURE DAY AT ROLLING HILLS WILDLIFE ADVENTURE.

Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure, Smoky Hill Education Service Center and Sternberg Museum of Natural History would like to announce Cox Communications as its corporate sponsor for its two longstanding education events, Safari Expo and Safari Ed-Venture Day. Cox Communications has been a proud sponsor of these events for many years now, and has been able to see them grow through their support.

Both events are hosted at Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure with Smoky Hill Education Service Center advertising the event to school groups and Sternberg Museum of Natural History assisting with the recruitment of professionals and workshop presenters. Combined, these two events brought nearly 1500 students from across Kansas to Salina.

Cox Communications presents a check for $2,000 to Safari Expo and Edventure Day representatives Jared Bixby,RHWA; Cami Liggett,Sternberg Museum; and Joe Ryan, Smoky Hill Education Service Center.

Safari Expo, a high school science career fair, is designed to increase Kansas students’ awareness of potential science-related career opportunities available and to assist them in preparing for a potential career in science. Annually, 500 high school students are able to meet with over 30 science professionals to ask questions, explore the tools they use, and move one step closer in determining the best career for their future in today’s society.

Safari Ed-Venture Day is a one-day event designed to increase kindergarten through seventh grade students’ appreciation and understanding for various fields of science and the many cultures around the world. This structured event is only one of five statewide hosted on the second Friday of every October. Emporia Zoo, Topeka Zoo, Sunset Zoo and Sedgwick County Zoo also host similar events on the same day. The largest of which is hosted by Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure bringing in nearly 800 students from across central and western Kansas. Combined, approximately 3000 Kansas students experience science and world cultures during this event, making it one of the largest one day educational events in the state hosted by a large consortium of organizations.

Cox Communications will present Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure, Smoky Hill Education Service Center and Sternberg Museum of Natural History with a sponsorship check on Wednesday, August 17, 2007. All media organizations are invited to attend this ceremony.
