Robbie was born on July 29th, 1992 at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita Ks. Born a bit early it was up to his keepers to care for him until a surrogate orangutan mother could be found. Luckily a wonderful mother was found at the Topeka Zoo and Robbie moved there to be with her. He was two months of age.

In February of 1999 Robbie joined the RHWA family. He was six years old. This photo was taken on Robbie's first outdoor experience. His pink face quickly became tan as he enjoyed the sunshine.

Robbie has grown into a handsome red ape. His large cheek flanges and long beard recognize him as an impressive adult male.

Robbie weighs 240 lbs. and is about four feet tall. His arm span will reach up to eight feet long. His hand measures about 12 inches.

His favorite foods are grapes and yogurt. He enjoys covering up with sheets and when he meets a new volunteer rolls his termite log around while long calling.

He is often found up close to the viewing window looking at visitors and the items they carry such as jewelry and cameras.
